Our last l arge project at the house is being completed with a s tamped concrete deck addition . Plus I can drive the 3wheeler onto it for summer evening parking. We’re going to have enough room for a gas fire pit, table and chairs and a hot tub if wanted. I will have to figure out the landscaping later. There will be rebar through the base because I already hate the next owners of this house. Bonus horse dog jumps.

Yea, I’d probably be swearing up a storm if I were trying to rip it out 3 0 years from now, but I’d still be impressed that a previous owner did something the right way.

Maybe I'll buy the house next to it so I can watch their face.

Are you doing some sort of finish on concrete after stamping? Did this on a prior house, didn’t spend much thought on the finish and it ended up being super slick with any moisture on it at all (which happens a lot in Houston). Lesson learned.

I’m heartbroken by the lost of that beautiful turf.

There are more brown patches in that grass it would be impossible to count.

Hmm it'll be an Ashler stamp with a colored finish, what compound would you add?

Unfortunately I don't know, just know what we did wasn't good.

Are you digging out the turf? To compact a stone or sand base?

It’ll have a 5/8 to 4 inch rock base tampered and compacted then rebar about 4 inches from the surface during the pou r.

Gotcha, but are you just putting the stone over the turf?

Dug up the edges near the forms and put some trench lines through the grass so yes in some places.

You never know, the next owner might deem it strong enough to be the foundation for a very curvy addition.

Gotcha. That should be pretty decent, especially with the resteel. At least if it settles, it should stay in one piece. Have you thought about exposed aggregate?

I’m just used to removing the turf and getting down to good sub but grade. But really as long as you compact the stone base well and with the resteel, it should stay a solid piece even if it settles. And it will settle and it will crack, but all concrete cracks. But that’s why you put joints in it, so it cracks at the joints. Welded wire mesh along with the resteel isn’t a bad idea either. Anything to tie the slab together is good.

I see I see! We have concrete floors through our house so I'm used to the cracks, I'll ask the contractor more questions. Thank you!
